We welcome and congratulate Hector Valls on his new position as data scientist. At SPKI he will get involved with the implementation of decision support tools based on artificial intelligence (AI) like visual cancer diagnosis and natural language processing (NLP).
Hector did his Master's degree at NTNU. In collaboration with CIUS (Center for Innovative Ultrasound Solutions) at St. Olav Hospital in Trondheim, he focused on developing a type of GAN (Generative Adversarial Network) that could generate realistic and customized ultrasound cardiac images. The network could produce images of hearts from different angles, and with the desired amount of speckle noise, for use in further research.
His bachelor thesis in collaboration with iTAKA (Intelligent Technologies for Advanced Knowledge Acquisition) and St. Joan University Hospital in Reus, consisted of finding solutions to store, analyse and display large amounts of structured and unstructured medical text documents.
Hector's interests range from AI and web to embedded software and hardware development. Nevertheless, he shows special motivation in medical research and says: “At SPKI, I become part of a team that values quality and that collaborates to find the best solutions to improve public health. The beautiful nature and landscape in Tromsø make working at UNN a fantastic experience."
